Destination Packs Project: Where to Go for a Snowy Dreamcation
Thanksgiving is still a week away, but Starbucks, Target, and every store in between has made one thing clear: the holidays are officially here! While it’s still too early to go pick up a freshly cut tree, it’s the perfect time to plan your next dreamcation.
Few things are as magical as falling snow, so whether you’re dreaming of a White Christmas or dying to hit the slopes, this list is for you! Today’s adventure takes us to Europe, with our top five destinations for a winter wonderland of your very own.
1. Sölden, Austria
Sölden is like a scene out of a movie...literally! It was recently featured in one of the most recent James Bond films, and for good reason. It snows nearly year-round, with snowfall peaking in the beginning of January. The ski resort’s pristine scenery is hard to beat, and it comes with miles and miles of slopes fit for skiers of all levels.
2. Breuil-Cervinia, Italy
At over 11,000 feet above sea level, the spectacular ski resort has a rich history. It was built back in 1936, rapidly becoming a dream destination for professional skiers and snowboarders, as well as travelers ready for a new thrill. Peak snowfall isn’t usually until February or March, but you should be able to enjoy the snow anytime after November.
3. Val Thorens, France
Val Thorens is one resort that’s a win for travelers of all kinds. In addition to the insanely good skiing, it offers plenty of opportunities to relax. Visit the spa, warm up in the sauna, or take a break from snowy festivities to enjoy kick back with a hot cup of cocoa.
4. Chamonix Mont-Blanc, France
The most well-known of all the destinations on our list, Chamonix Mont-Blanc is one of the world’s top destination for winter sports and fun. It’s nestled between rocky mountains at a remarkable 15,781 ft above sea level, and it’s just as great for families as it is for ski wizards.
5. Silvretta Arena Ischgl-Samnaun, Switzerland
While it’s not as high up as some of the other resort, this one is a popular destination fit for royalty. Snow blankets 124 miles of well-maintained slopes, and the resort itself is gorgeous. After a day of shredding the slopes, watch live celebrity performances at the arena!
What to Pack
Just going for a few days? We're all for packing light, but there are a couple of things worth remembering. The weather can get frigid in all of these gorgeous destinations, so snow clothes are essential. We also recommend stocking your backpack with:
- A travel pillow and headphones for the long flight
- A book or e-reader
- And a thermos, to warm you up on chilly afternoons
On your dreamcation, you'll probably want to stock up on holiday treasures, so don't forget to bring an extra traveler bag along to get them home safely!
