Destination Packs Project: Our 5 Fave Spots for Fall Foliage
Can you feel the chill in the air? Halloween is here, and pumpkins aren’t the only splashes of color lighting up the season. From coast to coast, fall foliage is in full swing.
What better excuse for a quick weekend getaway than the quiet calm of a fall forest? Just grab your bag and get moving! For those traveling frequently for work, the spectacular color palette is also a worthwhile reason to slip out of that next conference a few minutes early. Don’t worry...we won’t tell!
1. Aspen, Colorado
Why We Love It
Although Aspen is best known as a winter ski resort, fall is almost more stunning. The mountains and valleys of Aspen are lined with rows and rows of, you guessed it, aspen trees! Unlike maples that usually turn shades of red and orange, aspens turn an eye-catching bright yellow. Aside from the scenic drives, there’s plenty to explore in the area.
Where to Stay
If you’re traveling through Aspen, you can’t miss Hotel Jerome. The scenic resort has a rich history that you can feel within the walls. First opening in 1889, the hotel has offered warm beds and a heaping spoonful of hospitality to 2019 slope-goers and 1900 cowboys alike.
2. Columbia River Gorge, Oregon
Why We Love It
The west coast is seriously underestimated when it comes to fall foliage. Many areas of Oregon and Washington boast striking autumn color, and the Columbia River Gorge is among the best. Home to jaw-dropping cliffs and waterfalls, Columbia River Gorge is blanketed in lush greenery and spotted with towering maples.
Where to Stay
The Colombia Gorge Hotel and Spa is where it’s at. Peaceful gardens, river views, and romantic suites are perfect for a quiet getaway.
3. Stowe, Vermont
Why We Love It
When you picture fall, an image of Stowe is probably what pops into your head. The town is quaint, with tons of shops, restaurants, and activities to choose from. The town is nestled in the middle of the most beautiful fall foliage in the world.
Where to Stay
With a perfect location, views, and a romantic, bed-and-breakfast vibe, you can’t get better than the Stone Hill Inn.
4. The Catskills, NY
Why We Love It
Best known for the Catskills Forest Preserve, this New York escape is rich in wildlife, outdoor adventure, and scenic beauty.
Where to Stay
If you’re looking for cozy, The Inn at Lake Joseph fits the bill. The luxurious bed and breakfast even offers pet-friendly rooms, so EVERY member of the family can come along.
5. Upper Peninsula, Michigan
Why We Love It
There is no bad view along Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Every road leads to rich autumn color, from soft yellows to vibrant reds. The flaming maples and oaks are accented by the serene background of deep, blue lakes.
Where to Stay
For a uniquely beautiful, high-end stay, try the Iroquois Hotel. If you’re not impressed by the waterfront views, the 5-star staff will win you over.
